Survey results show: No job, no access to health care for many African-American Temp Labor workers in Chicago
Bringing Down Barriers project investigates possible discriminatory hiring practices, in Chicago’s Staffing Agencies, and the potential connection to lack of health care
When Alyssa Joiner, student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was placed with the Chicago Workers’ Collaborative (CWC) for her summer internship in June of 2012, she was excited. The southside native’s goal is to obtain a graduate degree in Public Health and Clinical Psychology, and to use that training to support low-income families in Chicago who have difficulty obtaining access to health care. Working together with the Bringing Down Barriers project, she developed a survey to learn more about low-income workers’ access to jobs and that connection to health care access.
